The computer security company WISeKey has announced the opening of a new Blockchain Center of Excellence in Geneva, Switzerland.

WISeKey offers its customers a service for secure authentication based on a cryptographic tool called Root of Trust. Now the company plans to expand its operations, also incorporating the sectors of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the blockchain.

The Blockchain Center of Excellence will be responsible for assisting startups in the decentralized registers industry, as well as studying and promoting this new technology. It also aims to accelerate the adoption of blockchain in both public and private sectors.

The opening of this new center fits into a broader framework of collaboration with the Blockchain Research Institute (BRI), which aims to found similar locations in the United States, Latin America, China, India and Africa. The ultimate aim of the initiative is to coordinate with companies, academies and other institutions, in order to share resources and best practices.

Each center will develop its own area of expertise: Geneva will focus for example on fintech technologies, while the headquarters in Buenos Aires will specialize in anti-counterfeiting systems.
